Hajia Laadi Ayishetu Ayamba, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Pusiga Constituency, has called on educational authorities in the district to assign professional teachers to Kindergarten and Class one levels.

Hajia Ayamba said the perception that Kindergarten and class one pupils were young and do not need professional tuition was wrong, because such levels needed good and strong educational foundation to prepare solid foundation for higher education.

Hajia Ayamba made the call when she interacted with teachers and pupils of the Pusiga Primary School at Pusiga, the district capital during "my first day at school tour".

The MP visited some selected basic schools in the company of Mr Zubeiru Abdulai, District Chief Executive for Pusiga.

The MP said weak educational foundation were the causes of poor performance at the basic level.

She said records of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has been abysmal in the district and cited the 2017 BECE as only recording six percent passes.

She said more effort is needed to address the situation since basic education was important in the development of children.

Hajia Ayamba warned teachers to desist from the use of pidgin and unprofessional languages among themselves during school hours, as the pupils adopt such negative traits, saying “children have soft ears and can learn fast and for that matter absorb whatever language that comes from their teachers’ mouths”.

The MP called on stakeholders in education including the Parents Teacher Associations among others to come on board and help address the concern.

The District Chief Executive for the area urged teachers and heads of institutions to be committed in their profession and consider the proper methodology when teaching the children.
