Engage us in coronavirus fight – Jobless medical laboratory professionals

The Coalition of Unemployed Medical Laboratory Professionals has called on the Ministry of Health (MoH) to engage its members who have the needed expertise to “augment government’s efforts in fighting COVID-19 in the country”.

Ghana’s COVID-19 cases have risen to 52 with two deaths.

The government has placed a ban on all public gatherings to prevent further spread of the virus.

In a statement released by the Coalition and signed by its Public Relations Officer (PRO), Victor Batsa, the group reiterated the need for a “united front in terms of strategy to fight the pandemic” and indicated its “preparedness to join the fight against COVID-19 by doing our part in terms of providing accurate testing services, as well as provide auxiliary services.”

It continued that in order to make the efforts of the Coalition effective, it is calling on the “Ministry of Health to absorb the unemployed medical laboratory professionals who have the requisite training to augment governments efforts to fighting this menace in the healthcare field.”

It also called on the MoH to “provide adequate personal protective equipment for all medical staff who are at very high risk of contracting” the virus and reminded Ghanaians “to practise safe social distancing, handwashing, sanitisation and also report any suspected cases promptly to the authorities.”
