Private health professionals have appealed to the government to engage their services in the fight against coronavirus.

The Society of Private Medical and Dental Practitioners, Ghana is calling for an effective collaboration between the government and private health operators in dealing with the coronavirus.

It urged government to involve private health practitioners in capacity building activities and also use some of their facilities as screening and testing centres.

In a 12-point statement, the association implored the government to prioritize the provision of PPEs for all health officials at the frontline of the battle.

“We urge the government to actively involve in private health practitioners in training activities to build capacity of health staff in screening, case management and contract tracing”.

They also reiterated the importance of strict adherence to the preventive protocols advised by the government and health officials.

As part of measures to contain the virus, some parts of the country are on a two-week lockdown.

The government on Monday announced that it has through partners raised $100millions to mitigate the impact of the virus on the country.

It has also established a trust fund to generate more funds to combat the virus.

Ghana’s case count as of Tuesday March 31 stood at 169 with death toll witnessing no change.
