The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has taken a significant step towards strengthening social protection systems in Ghana.

A two-day workshop was organized for selected journalists and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to educate them on social protection systems, with a focus on the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program.

The workshop, held at the Capital View Hotel in Koforidua, Eastern Region, brought together experts from various fields, including Journalists in Social Protection (JISOP), Inclusion Ghana, academia, and the leadership of the LEAP Management Secretariat.

Facilitators at the event took participants through the history of social protection systems and LEAP, success stories of LEAP, the role of social partners, and planned actions for LEAP.

The workshop aimed to bridge the communication gap, promote transparency, and encourage third-party endorsement.

Colson Akanbasiam, Head of Communications at the LEAP Management Secretariat, emphasized the importance of social partners working together to implement policies that benefit vulnerable populations.

He commended stakeholders for their continuous support and encouraged participants to serve as ambassadors for social protection systems.

Auberon Jeleel Odoom, National Coordinator for Inclusion Ghana, highlighted the need to strengthen social protection systems to protect vulnerable individuals.

Mohamed Fugu, President of JISOP, described the workshop as an eye-opener for journalists.

He commended the Ministry and the LEAP Management Secretariat for organizing the workshop and encouraged journalists to work on projects that amplify social protection systems.

The workshop demonstrates the Ministry’s commitment to promoting social protection systems and ensuring that vulnerable populations receive the support they need.

By educating journalists and CSOs, the Ministry aims to raise awareness about social protection systems and encourage stakeholders to work together to promote the well-being of all Ghanaians.
