Former Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has expressed shock over government’s failure to make Accra the cleanest city as they promised.
According to him, the country has not made any progress for the past 3 years, since they assumed office.
He added that Accra has become the dirtiest under the Akufo-Addo led government compared to the previous government.
At the 2019 State of the Nation address, Akufo-Addo pledged to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa to attract tourists and also improve sanitation in the country by the end of his term.
This pledge, according to the Member of Parliament, is mere lip service as nothing has been done to fight against filth.
He said “… Water and sewage; negative 7.1. Enough of the talk about making Accra the cleanest city in Africa. These are their numbers. Are you surprised we are dirtier than we were before three years ago?”
Filth has swallowed up the Capital city, Accra and other parts of the nation especially at most markets, major highways and several communities in the city.
The President, has however promised to make Accra the cleanest cities in Africa by the end of his tenure.
But now, that commitment seems to be a fluke as no major initiative has been put in place to address these sanitation challenges.
