The Ensign College of Public Health held a matriculation ceremony on Saturday, September 28, 2019 to welcome 21 newly admitted students to pursue the 2-year Master of Public Health degree program.
In his opening remarks to the congregation, the President of the College, Professor Steve Alder expressed his excitement for Ghana’s dedication to Public health. He commended the government’s efforts in promoting the wellbeing of the Ghanaian people. Citing the recent speech by President Akufo-Addo at the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly, he commended the government for their interest and effort in promoting issues relevant to Public health and urged all stakeholders to do more in promoting public health in Ghana.
He stated that, Ensign College is leading the way in the area of public health through the introduction of the “Health2Go” initiative which seeks to equip community health volunteers with high-quality training, to deliver primary health resource to “hard-to-reach” communities across the country.
He congratulated the students for choosing Ensign College. You are here to be shaped, you are here to learn and then you are to go forth and take what you've learnt at ensign and share it with the world, he added. He also spoke about the newly introduced program dubbed “Ensign Leadership Corp”, which will include each semester involvement in world-class leadership programs.
The Registrar, Mr Patrick Kuma administered the Matriculation Oath to confer membership status on the new students in line with Article 30 of the Ensign College of Public Health Statute. In a welcome address, he noted that the 2019/2020 academic year recorded a high number of Female matriculants and urged more men to join the public health fraternity.
The matriculants’ Cohort Representative, Stephen Henry Afakozi, in his address advised fellow matriculants to take advantage of all resources, both material and human, so as to achieve their goals.
Dr. George Manu, the Ensign Students’ Representative Council (ESRC) body president also addressed the congregation by highlighting on students’ responsibilities to serve their communities. He also talked about upcoming ESRC activities including exchange programs and other extracurricular activities.
The president, Professor Steve Alder, in his closing remarks appreciated the student's body for helping shape the image of the college and making this program a success. On behalf of the board of Governors, he welcomed them into the ECOPH community and wished them the best of stay.
