Obuasi, Sept 29, GNA - Heads of basic schools and their teachers have been advised to ensure that pupils and students' contact hours are not used for partisan political discussions.

Mrs Beatrice Boakye-Ansah Prempeh, the Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, said this at a maiden meeting of the school term with heads of public basic schools in the municipality at Obuasi. "See to it that instructional hours are not used for discussing politics at the expense of the child's education".

She reminded the heads against the wearing of party T-shirts and other party paraphernalia to school, saying "you will be promoting divisive tendencies in the school environment". Mr Prempeh said the result of the 2008 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the municipality was not bad. "Generally the schools performed well".

On 'Ayekoo' Excellence Foundation award for 2007, Mrs Prempeh said AngloGold Ashanti, Independence, Saint Augustine's, Saint Philip's and Holy Child Junior High schools received awards for their excellent performance in the 2007 BECE. She appealed to the heads to continue to work with dedication and diligence to further enhance education delivery in the municipality. 29 Sept 08
