The Paramount Chief of Asogli Traditional Area, Togbe Afede XIV, has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure absolute transparency, fairness, and credibility in the pending elections.
Speaking in a recent interview with Joy News, Togbe Afede stressed the need for processes that inspire trust and uphold the integrity of the country's electoral system.
The Paramount Chief of Asogli explained that transparency involves clear procedures at polling stations, such as voters being seen as they pick their ballot papers, entering the booths, and casting their ballots.
"Very importantly, going into the election, we all have to ensure an absolute free and fair election. It must be a secret election, but transparent.
"Transparency means we see them pick their ballot papers, enter the booth, and drop their ballots into the box. This ensures nobody can introduce foreign materials into the process," he stated.
He stressed that these measures are essential to prevent accusations of foul play, ensure that voters have confidence in the results, and preserve peace after the elections.
"You see them (voters) as pick the ballots, you see them as they are in the booth to ensure nobody picks and brings to the ballot centres any foreign material. You see them as they leave the booth, so go and drop their ballots in the ballot box for me that aspect very important.
"So, nobody can cry foul, we can believe in the fair play and the fairness of the election and so we can continue to enjoy our peace after the results have been accepted but again it requires that there is absolute transparency," he added.
