Entrepreneurship Is Not Just Buying And Selling- Dr. Spio Garbrah

Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), Ghana, has launched its entrepreneurship week dubbed Fostering Job Creation and Economic growth through entrepreneurship.

GEW is part of the world’s largest celebration of the innovators and job creators, who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare. GEW is hosted in Ghana by Youth Enhancement International (YEI) since its inception in 2008.

At a press launch organized on Monday, Ambassador of GEW, Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah said there is the need for Ghanaians and for that matter the youth to adopt the attitude of an entrepreneur and aspire to work for themselves with the skills they have acquired.

According to him, being an entrepreneur is not just buying and selling but going the extra mile of making an impact in society with the skill that has been acquired through education, adding, office work should not be the only employment opportunity for the youth.

“Other countries are doing well (when it comes to entrepreneurship), especially among the youth because people want to be their own bosses...i hope Ghana will also do the same. Ghanaians have talents which can be channeled into entrepreneurship. Those who take the risk and stick with it will succeed…” he said.

He advised those who have already taken the bold step of becoming an entrepreneur need not be afraid of failing or trying ‘over and over again’ until success is rest assured.

Among the events lined up is ‘start up weekend’. This is a 54-hour event where developers, designers and business development folks come together to pitch an idea, develop and launch businesses.

The event starts from 16th-18th November 2012 at the Meltwater School of Entrepreneurship, East legon.
