Environmental Health Officer solicit help

Brakwa (CR), July 12, GNA - The Brakwa Town Council, Assembly Members and the Chiefs and people of Brakwa have been called upon to organise communal labour to distil the gutters in and around the local market that cause floods during rains.

The gutters are chocked with debris and the least rains render the market uninhabitable.

The Environmental Health Officer, Miss Victoria Efua Brown made the call when she invited reporters to the market scene for situational report when the market omen had engaged the services of three males to distil the gutters at the weekend.

In an interview, Miss Brown said that the market women had decided to contribute a special levy to engage hired labour to distil the gutters to prevent flooding, as the chocked gutters were one of the courses of the flooding of the market.

Miss Brown said that the contractor rehabilitating the market has also abandoned the project and he was not immediately available for comments on the position of the project.

The Health Officer further said that she was working with only three sanitary labourers in such a large community and therefore needed more hands but all attempts for the community to assist had failed. She said a group of people volunteered to sweep the principal streets but they have also stopped following lack of encouragement and incentives from authorities concerned with the town's development.
