Leader of the Economic Fighters League(Fighters), Ernesto Yeboah, and two other members of the pressure group have been granted bail after an arrest during a protest in parliament against the proposed $200million 450-seat chamber for the legislature.
They were admitted to bail in the sum of GHS2,000 with one surety.They were also cautioned and their statements taken. The three are expected to report to the police on Monday 8 July 2019.
Mr Yeboah and the others were put in handcuffs by the Police Protection Unit of Parliament in collaboration with the Marshals Department and dragged to parliament’s district police headquarters on Friday, 5 July 2019.
The law enforcement agents said Mr Yeboah and the Fighters were disrupting the business of the house.
Lawyer for the suspects Francis-Xavier Sosu in an interview with Class 91.3FM described the mode of arrest as an abuse of the rights of the activists. He said his clients will cooporate fully in subsequent investigations.
