A call has been made to the youth of the country to avoid aggressive and violent conduct as Ghana gears up for the polls in December in order to uphold the country’s record of pulling off successful elections.

The appeal came from the opposition New Patriotic Party’s Brong Ahafo regional secretary, Alfred Ofori Anyeh, as the party presented some pieces of plywood to the Kintampo Central Mosque in the Kintampo North municipality to aid its expansion and renovation.

In an interview with Accra News after the donation, made on behalf of former President John Kufuor, NPP flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and running mate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Mr. Anyeh said: “…We will keep advising our younger brothers that it is necessary to be fierce, but if you extend that aggression to elections, it won’t help matters. This is a time for everyone to make their choice regarding who rules our country.”

He urged them to be tolerant of opposing political views while resisting offers to be recruited as thugs by politicians to attack persons and property during electioneering and voting. Such persons who would allow themselves to be used for such purpose, he continued, needed to bear in mind that once the long arm of the law caught them in its grip, they would be facing the music alone while those whose agenda they were prosecuting walk free.

The Chief Imam of Kintampo, Alhaji Abdul Aziz, who received the items, thanked Mr. Akufo-Addo, Dr. Bawumia, and Mr. Kufuor for honouring their appeal for support towards fixing the Mosque. They assured that they would continue to pray for them.

“We thank the leadership of the NPP for this gesture. Ever since this mosque was put up, the NPP has supported us,” the cleric disclosed, recalling a donation of GHS5,000 from the party during the era of President John Kufuor towards its construction. He expressed gratitude to the party for the follow-up gesture.
