The Ashanti Regional Communication Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mrs. Lily Appiah has advised Ghanaian women in politics to eschew negative behaviours that hinder progress in positions they find themselves in.
According to her, most women in leadership positions have brought their offices into disrepute due to their unsavoury attitudes in society.
She believes majority of women missed the opportunity of being in leadership positions due to negative behaviours they exhibit.
Mrs. Appiah encouraged women to prove to the world that they are worth their salt when given the opportunity.
‘Women have to be proactive, we have to see them in control of affairs, they have to act and act well, it’s left with you as a woman to prove that I am somebody who is decent.
So I believe that it’s high time some behavioural characters that we have as women be put them aside, in politics you are dealing with different kinds of people, whether you like it or not. Those who are going to like, hate you, those who are going to share in your objectives, opinions and those who wouldn’t, you have to blend it as a transformational women leader,’ she urged.
Speaking on Ultimate breakfast show hosted by Lantam Papanko, the NPP Regional Communication Member entreated women to work together for the rights of other vulnerable women.
‘We shouldn’t sit in the offices, we should come down, we should come together as women and fight for the rights of women, if you look at the men, the men issues are different from us, they can easily click, move together, though they don’t know a different person, within a shortest time, they just click but is not like women somehow, even how to relate to the people at the constituency. The people who voted for you, they have that trust in you.
If you have a personal problem, try and confide in them and work with them. But if you think you have gotten the position and you are on top and you don’t listen to people, the very people who took you up there will bring you down.
It’s a huge challenge but that is what we are here, we are in to help and we will be taking that process gradually,’ she observed.
She advised women in positions to groom young girls, saying mentorship is key.
