Wa, April 14, GNA - The Evangelical Church of Ghana on Friday began a four-day national Easter convention at Wa under the theme: "a new life for you".

This is the first time the convention, which had participants from all parts of the country, was being held in the region in the church's 29 years history.

Mr Ambrose Dery, Upper West Region Minister, urged the church to place emphasis on the development of the youth and instil in them the attributes of discipline, which constituted the foundation for the growth of the nation.

Indiscipline, he noted, had taken a high toll on development of the country by breeding mismanagement low output, corruption and drug abuse. If we allow these negative traits to persist and engulf our youth, the future will be bleak, he stated.

Mr Dery asked Christians to draw important lessons from the crucifixion, death and resurrection of Christ. Easter, he noted, should unite them as a people and remind them of the value of sacrifice.

The General Overseer of the church Rev. Emmanuel Nambu said it was usually what came out of man that destroyed him, his neighbours and his environment.

God, he said made provision for every human being to change a new life, but to experience that new life, they must first examine their current lives. Rev. Nambu said a life of un-forgiveness, a life of wicked thoughts, bitterness, hatred and a life of worries must give way to a life of forgiveness and love for one another. He advised Christians to see the need for a clean environment, peaceful coexistence and the need to supplement each other's efforts for the general good of all. 14 April 06
