Even if Jesus comes from heaven to be EC chairperson, NDC will complain – Hackman Owusu-Agyemang

Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Council of Elders, has expressed concern over the posture of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the opposition party of prematurely assuming victory in the upcoming elections.

Speaking on PM Extra on Joy News on 25 November 2024, Owusu-Agyemang criticised the NDC’s approach, suggesting it reflects a mindset that any outcome other than their victory would imply electoral malpractice.

“I don’t like the opposition’s posture, and they keep saying that if they don’t win, then something has happened. Believe me, if you bring Jesus Christ from heaven to come and become the Electoral Commissioner, they will still complain,” he remarked.

He also emphasised that Parliament belongs to the people of Ghana, not just its Speaker, and urged parliamentarians to act in the country’s best interests.

“They owe it to us at Parliament. It is not the property of the Speaker; it is for the people of Ghana. So, they must listen to us and move on,” he stated.

Owusu-Agyemang lamented the challenges Ghana continues to face, admitting that the setbacks sometimes overwhelm him.

“Sometimes, in my quiet moments, I feel like crying,” he confessed.

Despite the difficulties, the former Minister for Foreign Affairs highlighted the need to build on Ghana’s achievements, maintaining hope for the country’s future.

“Interruptions here and there by the military, a whole lot of problems, but that notwithstanding, we will be able to make this country a great nation in Africa. The world will respect Ghana for what it is, what it’s been able to achieve, and what it will continue to build upon,” he explained.
