Different factors influence why voters align with particular parties or vote for particular candidates during elections.

A voter in the just-ended Ejisu by-election has stated that for her, voting for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) was an imperative irrespective of whoever the party presents as its candidate.

In a video shared on social media, the unnamed woman stressed that even if the NPP presented an item instead of a human being, she would still vote for the party.

"Even if you bring a stone as the NPP candidate, if it is NPP, I will vote for it. Lawyer go, lawyer come. If a stone is presented 100 times, I will vote for it," she told a journalist.

Her reference to 'lawyer go, lawyer come' relates to the victory of lawyer Kwabena Boateng of the NPP in the Ejisu by-election.

The MP-elect is set to replace the late Member of Parliament for Ejisu, John Kumah, who was also a lawyer.

At the end of the April 30 vote, Boateng polled 55.8% of valid votes cast whereas his closest contender and former Ejisu MP on the NPP's ticket, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi came second with over 43%.

Boateng is set to be sworn into office when Parliament next reconvenes.
