Ghanaian nationals living in China want the Government of Ghana to arrange for an evacuation as soon as possible following the ill-treatment from the Chinese authorities in relation to the covid-19 pandemic.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has urged all Ghanaian nationals living in China, especially Guangdong Province to remain calm and stay in touch with Ghana’s Mission in Beijing and the Consulate- General in Guangzhou in the event of any worrying development.

This comes after a meeting between the Chinese authorities and African Ambassadors convened on the back of the ill-treatment against black foreigners.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry on Monday said the two parties have reached a middle-ground as the Chinese government has taken immediate steps to stop the targeting of and ill-treatment meted out to Africans, particularly Ghanaians living in the Guangdong Province.

“The Government of Ghana has taken note of this development and is keenly monitoring the situation,” the statement stressed.

Despite this, the Ghanaian nationals claimed the reassuring message to them by the Foreign Affairs Ministry is pointless in the face of the Chinese government’s intransigence on the matter.

One of such stranded Ghanaians in the Guangdong province, Patrick Arthur in an interview with Kweku Owusu Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM believes their plight won’t stop now because there is essentially a law in place in China backing the reaction of the authorities against them.

“The outcome of the meeting with African Ambassadors on the matter won’t yield any fruit. What we need now is an evacuation plan now. We’re ready to be quarantined upon reaching Ghana. Its better than the high risks and the cruelty we’re facing here. President Akufo-Addo must open the borders for us”
