A leading member of the biggest minority party in Ghana, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Tony Aidoo has justified the harsh comments made by former President Rawlings during a public lecture to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the June Four uprising.

In an interview with JOYFM, Dr. Aidoo who was the former Deputy Minister for Defence, dismissed the many criticisms that Flight Lieutenant Rawlings’ remarks has attracted, saying Ghanaians must not lose sight of the fact that though a coup maker, Flight. Lt Rawlings worked hard to develop the country and also restored constitutional democracy. He also referred to the Foreign Minister Hackman Owusu-Agyeman as a liar and described his reaction to the Ex-Presidents comments as vituperations.

Mr. Hackman Owusu-Agyeman in the wake of the hot exchanges, threatened that government will withdraw certain privileges being accorded the former President if he refused to conduct himself with dignity and decorum. The legal basis of the Foreign Minister’s statement has however been questioned by Dr. Aidoo.
