Ex-Prez Kufuor invited for AU Summit

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor is among former presidents specially invited by the African Union (AU) to be part of the 22nd Ordinary Session, which began on Thursday, January 30, 2014 in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa.

This year’s Session has been dedicated to food security on the continent.

It is part of the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).

The Programme, which is the agricultural programme of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), was launched in 2003 when Kufuor was President of Ghana and automatically a member of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government.

This year’s Session will discuss how African economies can channel energies to ensure a food-secured continent and relate it to climate change.

Besides Former President Kufuor, Ghana is represented at the Summit by Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Minister Hannah Tetteh and Minister of Food and Agriculture Clement Kofi Humado.

The Session is scheduled to close on Friday, January 31, 2014.
