Nana Yaw Nimo Kwakorakwa, Ex-Chief of Aburaso, near Kumasi and 12 others were on Tuesday remanded in prison custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court for allegedly murdering one Kwaku Poku Appiah during disturbances occasioned by a chieftaincy dispute at Aburaso on April 27.
They would re-appear before the court on May 14.
The court presided over by Mr Justice E. K. Mensah acceded to the request of the Police to remand them in Prison custody to enable them to conclude investigations.
Counsel for the accused persons, Mr D. M. Adusei had pleaded with the court for a bail, saying that the offence was murder caused by one person and that it was a single-barrelled gun that was used.
He asked that the court dealt with the case on individual basis since there was no evidence of conspiracy. "Have the Police any evidence to actually say who pulled the trigger?
"If they have, may be only my Lord, has the power to remand them, or else only one person may be remanded. All the others have nothing to do with the murder as some were not at the scene."
The Judge said considering the large charged crowd at the court premises, the life of the accused persons had to be protected.
