Ex-chief mad over importation of chairs by parliament

Nana Nanabanyin Ninisin-Imbeah II, ex-Nyifahen of the Mfantseman Council in the Ashanti Region, has expressed shock over Parliament’s decision to purchase furniture from China, when President Mahama has embarked upon a campaign for the patronage of made in Ghana goods.

In an exclusive interview with The Chronicle, the ex-senior functionary of the defunct Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), stated that during a sessional address in Parliament, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama admonished Ghanaians to embrace locally manufactured goods.

He did not understand why Parliament defied Mahama and went ahead to procure made in China chairs, for which the senior cadre has described parliamentarians as dead wood. Nana Ninsin Imbeah II stressed that Parliament is full of dead wood, and is not a listening Parliament. “If they are a listening Parliament, they will not behave this way,” he stressed to buttress his argument.

He also reiterated advice by the Trade Minister, Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah, during his vetting at the August House, when he told the Committee that parliamentarians must set an example by going for local chairs instead of foreign ones, and stop eating imported rice, as well as patronise local staples.

Aggrieved Nana Ninsin Imbeah II has, therefore, urged Ghanaians to vote out this current crop of parliamentarians in 2016 General Elections. According to him, patronising made in Ghana goods would save the Ghanaian economy, thereby growing our local industries, but alas, the legislators have kicked against the domestication of the economy, which is already facing serious impediments.
