Ex-convict goes back to jail

Kade, Oct. 18, GNA - A mason, Prince Ntiamoah, who admitted to having served a term of imprisonment at the Nsawam prisons, has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, in hard labour, by the Kade Magistrate's Court, for stealing.

Ntiamoah, who pleaded guilty to stealing a VCD player, two Nokia mobile phones and a VIP s pray, all valued at GH¢200, was convicted on his own plea.

General Police Sergeant Ambrose Akpablie told the court, presided over by Mr Majid Iliasu that, both the complainant, Richard Asafori, a driver and the accused lived in the same vicinity at Asuom. He said in September, at about 01:30 hours, the complainant woke up and detected that the mentioned items had been stolen from his room. Sergeant Akpablie said on October 2, this year, at about 12:50 hours, the complainant spotted a young man in possession of the stolen items, at Asuom.

The complainant confronted him and he admitted that it was the accused, who stole the VCD and the other items and that he was taking it to a repairer for testing.

The complainant took the young man to the accused house, where he identified his mobile phones.

The accused admitted stealing the items from the complainant's room but when the complainant attempted to arrest him he jumped through a window and escaped.

The magistrate ordered that, in addition to serving the 18 months in prison, the accused should compensate the complainant with GH¢100.
