Ex-convict sentenced for stealing

Kumasi, Jan 17, GNA- The Ashanti New Town Circuit Court in Kumasi Metropolis, has sentenced a 38-year-old ex-convict, Yaw Appiah, to 12 months imprisonment for stealing.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of attempting to steal and stealing.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Mary Baah told the Court presided over Mrs Doreen Appiagyei Appiah, that the accused stole personal effects valued at 1.8 million cedis and a cash of 400,000 cedis from his ex-convict friend on December 4, 2004 at Kentenkyire in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District.

She said on January 9, this year, the complainant saw Appiah at Ashanti New Town in Kumasi and confronted him over the issue, which resulted in a fight.

Some police personnel who were at the scene effected their arrest and upon interrogation Appiah was charged with the offence.
