A 49-year-old retired military officer has been chosen to contest the forth coming Nkoranza-North by-election on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party.

Retired Major Derrick Oduro was elected, albeit unopposed at a constituency conference of the party held at the Busunya Secondary School in the Nkoranza-North district.

Five candidates had filed to contest on the NPP’s ticket as at the close of nominations on Tuesday, however they all stood down.

NPP Chairman Peter Mac Manu and General Secretary Nana Ohene Ntow told JOY FM that the party has completed with electing its candidate for the by-election, it was ready to step up its campaign to retain the seat.

The Nkoranza-North seat fell vacant after former NPP MP, Eric Amoateng resigned to concentrate on his legal battle in the US where he is standing trial for narcotic offences.
