The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been hit by examination leakage, akin to the recent one at the University of Ghana, Legon.

The registrar of the university, Mrs S. Quarshie-Sam, confirmed yesterday afternoon that there had been leakage of three papers in the ongoing second semester examinations in the College of Art and the Faculty of Social Sciences.

A statement from the registrar named the papers as Social Psychology ll, Law of Immovable Property ll and Human Resource Management ll.

Three persons, a teaching assistant and two students suspected to have played key roles in the act, are assisting the police and the university security in their investigations.

The affected papers have been cancelled, while arrangements have been put in place to have the papers retaken on May 16 and 17, 2005.

The statement said the Executive Committee of the Academic Board instituted investigations into suspected tampering of some examinations papers in the ongoing examinations following allegations of leakage.

According to the statement, the investigations proved that the allegations were true, which necessitated the cancellation of the papers.

KNUST Meets On Exam Leakage

Authorities at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) are meeting over the exams leakage scandal that has hit the school.
The authorities are interrogating at least two teaching assistants and two students at the University for their involvement in the scandal.
So far, four examination papers have been cancelled.
They are Sociology, Philosophy, Law and Human Resource Management.
Sources say most of the question papers for final year students at the Social Science department were leaked this semester but the authorities were only able to find out at the last sitting.
The cancelled papers have been rescheduled for next week.
Sources say the leakage was planned with the help of staff at the Exams office, a Teaching Assistant, and some foreign students, who buy the questions, solve them on an official exam-answering sheet in their rooms and then exchange them in the exam hall with the blank sheets.
Some of the students, especially foreign students, are very worried about the scandal as school goes on recession this Saturday and congregation is scheduled between the 7th and 10th of June.
