The fate of final year students of the Takoradi Polytechnic is yet to be determined, since the strike action by the Polytechnic Teachers Association (POTAG) has disrupted their final examinations.

Students could not write their first examination paper as gathered by the Ghana News Agency.

At about 0745 hours when the GNA visited the school, most of the lecture halls were closed, with only a few students on campus.

The parking lot, which was usually congested with cars, especially in the early hours of the day, this time seemed deserted without much activities on campus.

Mr. Micheal Appiah, Regional President of POTAG, said the strike action is to get government to pay for the book and research allowance given to lecturers every academic year, to facilitate their research works.

He said though the academic year 2013-2014 was ending, several interventions to get government pay the monies had proven futile, adding that the book and research allowance formed part of the conditions of service for engaging the services of a lecturer.
