Accra, June 6, GNA - Dr. A. K. Fosu-Ahenkorah, Executive Director of the Energy Foundation (EF), Ghana, has been appointed Vice Chairman of the Governing Board of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) based in Vienna, Austria.

The appointment took place on Wednesday June 2, 2004 at the just ended first meeting of the Governing Board of REEEP held in Bonn, Germany.

A statement issued in Accra on Sunday and signed by Mr Ernest Asare, Director of Communications and Marketing of the EF, said Dr Ahenkorah's appointment to the REEEP Board was a significant recognition of the work of the Ghana Energy Foundation in renewable energy and energy efficiency promotion.

REEEP, which is a United Kingdom initiative, was launched in September 2002 at the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) held in South Africa.

It aims at actualising the commitment of participating governments and institutions at the WSSD to ensuring faster market growth for renewable energy, and energy efficiency services, and improving access to energy for the poor.

REEEP also seeks to address the widespread lack of human and institutional capacity necessary to expand renewable energy and energy efficiency markets.

Its partners currently comprise fourteen countries, including Ghana, United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy and South Africa.
