The Electoral Commission (EC) has fixed Friday October 24 to Thursday October 30 for the exhibition of the voters register.

The exercise would be at all polling stations throughout the country in accordance with Regulation 22 (1) of the Public Elections (Registration of voters) Regulations 2012, C. I. 72.

The exhibition would start at 7:00am and close at 6:00pm each day of the revision period, including Saturday and Sunday.

The exhibition is an opportunity for all registered voters, those who registered in 2012 and 2014 to go and check their names and particulars in the voters register; a statement signed by Mr Amadu Sulley, EC Deputy Chairman in charge of operations stated.

The statement urged all electorates to ask for correction of wrong data as well as inclusion of names and particulars where names of people who genuinely registered have been omitted.

The exhibition is also an opportunity to clean the register by taking off the names of unqualified people, such as minors and non-citizens, from the register; as well as removing the names of dead people.

The Commission therefore appealed to the public to help clean the register by going to inspect it when it is put on display and object to the inclusion of the names of minors and non-citizens.

The EC also called on the public to volunteer information on dead relatives so that their names could be taken off the register.

The public is cautioned that it is only people who appear in person who could ask for correction of wrong data or inclusion of their names where they have been omitted.

The public is also advised to endeavour to go with their voter ID cards to facilitate easy checking of their names.

Cleaning the voters register is a collective responsibility and therefore every registered voter must be interested in inspecting the register during the exhibition.
