Deputy National Security Coordinator in Charge of Airports, Hopeson Adorye has mounted a spirited defense for his under-fire boss who for more than a week now has been on the radar of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and some civil society organizations who are demanding his sack.
Mr Adorye who believes Minister of State in Charge of National Security, Bryan Acheampong is a topnotch security capo, catalogued his achievements including the critical role he played for the US army during the Afghan war, MyNewsGh.com reports
While insisting his intellectual ability in terms of security issues are the best, he lashed out at those who are out there including leading members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) calling for his head.
On Accra-based Asempa Fm, he said “Bryan Acheampong is unmatched when it comes to security matters. He is a US-trained Army Officer and played a lead role in the first war between the US and Afghanistan. He was the one in charge of the lead vehicle in the US Army convoy in the US-Afghan war. So wherever they went to, he was usually the lead person and so he has an in-depth understanding of security matters’’
This comes in the wake of propositions by New Patriotic Party (NPP) firebrand, Kennedy Agyapong Bryan Acheampong should take over from Mr Albert Kan Dapaah as substantive National Security Minister in view of the fact he appears like a saint if the boot-for-boot comments of former President John Dramani Mahama are anything to go by.
Speaking Adom TV’s Badwam monitored by MyNewsGh.com last on Tuesday, he appealed for those seeking equity to approach the equity with clean hands wondering why they will hail Mahama for such comments and vilify Bryan Acheampong for the corresponding action.
“If you see nothing wrong with the comments of Mahama, then Bryan Acheampong should not be criticised. I am telling president Akufo-Addo, he should appoint Bryan Acheampong as the Minister of National Security should Kan Dapaah retire.
In the aftermath of the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, the Minister of State in Charge of National Secuty, admitted the hooded National Security operatives deployed to the Constituency were his men denying claims they were members of New Patriotic Party (NPP) vigilante group.
He explained that the troops were sanctioned security personnel from his outfit specially deployed for the operation which was characterized by violence.
“We deployed the men. They are with us and some of them had masks. It is not like they came from somewhere and they were just engaged. They were part of the setup that we deployed. “Every deployment is based on the information that you receive and so you deploy in preparedness for the information that you have. Whether they are in masks, they are in slippers, they are plain clothes, it doesn’t matter. You need to protect the public”, he justified the group’s presence at the by-election.
