The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has been urged to extend the period of the ongoing limited voter's registration exercise which will end on Sunday, July 7, 2019.

According to Mr Ralph Apetorgbor, a Communications team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the move was necessary to ensure that several persons who were unsuccessful in getting their names on the voter roll for various reasons are captured by the EC on the register.

The ongoing limited voters’ registration exercise by the Electoral Commission is to enable persons who attained voting age of 18 since the last election as well as eligible voters to register and take part in the next elections.

Mr Apetorgbor said this in a Facebook post after the executive committee of the NDC Anya Sowutuom constituency has visited and monitored the ongoing limited voter's registration exercise at the EC's office at Sowutuom.

He said the monitoring was done to ensure transparency of the process for a free and fair election come 2020.

According to the Deputy Communications Officer for Anya Constituency, it was their responsibility as citizens and staunch Democrats to ensure the smooth running of electoral processes.

"This is to ensure transparency of the process for a free and fair election come 2020," he added.

He urged officers of the EC and applicants at the center not to do anything contrary to the laws with especially, registering minors.

He commended EC officials for working diligently.

Mr Apetorgbor also encouraged eligible voters to partake in the activity and encouraged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) agents to maintain cordiality to strengthen ties with each other.
