Eyadema?s security saves Kufuor from fowl attack

Africa is a continent of mystery where meanings are put on every event be it natural or unnatural. And if what was shown on Togolese television a day after the remembrance of the 9 May stadium disaster which claimed 126 lives is anything to go by, then our President J.A. Kufuor has been saved from what fetish observers and those who believe in voodist and occultic practices believe is a bad omen.

The spectacle that was captured on Togolese television showed scenes of our President arriving at the Lome Airport and going through a welcoming reception. In fact, many people who saw the scenes including Christians were shocked at what observers believe was a traditional Presidential welcome for a visiting head of state.

Readers might recall that when US President Bill Clinton visited Ghana two years ago he was hell-shocked when the fetish priest of the Ga traditional area poured libation with two bottles of Aromatic schnapps in each hand and invited him to taste the Traditional African welcoming party.

But what happened at the Lome Airport could send chills down the spines of our Head of State. Here was our President in a shirt over trousers; you can even call it a jumper gazing down as junior fowl was slaughtered and the blood sprinkled on whitish substance on the ground and he was beckoned to walk on the connection.

A repeat performance of slaughtering a bigger fowl was performed and the blood of the slain fowl was also sprinkled on a white powdering substance on the ground. Then the climax of it all happened when at another welcoming function, a fowl was choked to death with a knife and the blood was also fetishly sprinkled on another white substance. When the fowl was thrown to the ground and it struggled to gasp for its last breath, it started flouting on the ground with its wings akimbo and made straight towards our President.

All these events were seen live on television sets at Aflao on Sunday 12 May in a programme titled Le Journal. The programme ran for 35 minutes and the Voice who happened to be at Aflao saw it all. Juju sources confided that the booting of the fowl from ?attacking? our President was a good omen because it is believed in fetish sources that if the dying fowl had ?attacked? our President it would have meant a calamity. But for now the signs are that President J.A. Kufuor has averted what would have been seen as an evil.
