Eyes on the Ground: Kasoa tollbooth officials defy coronavirus preventive measures

In an era when humanity’s survival has come down to keeping stringent hygienic practices, in the face of a global pandemic with a mortality rate of almost 20 percent, personnel working from the Kasoa highway tollbooth have decided to throw caution to the wind.

Measures being trumpeted by health practitioners and the World Health Organisation in preventing the spread of the disease include washing of hands regularly, use of personal protective equipment such as facemasks, gloves, overalls and others.

One of the most certain ways, experts say the Coronavirus is transmitted, is through the exchange of money, hence have advised that little or no contact should be made to physical currencies.

In the event where it is essential, it is admonished that gloves be worn, or the hands sanitized used after contact.

Today is Day 3 of the mandatory lockdown of some parts of the country and GhanaWeb stepped out to observe how the citizenry is abiding by the directive, as well as how security personnel are enforcing it.

On arrival at the toll booth on the Kasoa Highway, however, our cameras captured officials manning the booths exchanging monies with vehicle users without protection or sanitizing afterwards.

Although they had facemasks on, their hands were exposed, raising grave concerns over the easy transmission of the Coronavirus.

Ghana’s number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus stands at 195 with 5 deaths.
