Eyes on the Ground: Residents of Lawra Dikpe report unauthorized routes from Burkina Faso to Upper West

Some residents of Lawra Dikpe in the Upper West Region of Ghana, have expressed concerns about how exposed they are, in the wake of a recorded case of the Coronavirus pandemic in their region.

Speaking to Ghanaweb, one such resident, Sawaare Jacob, explained that though efforts are being made to monitor the country’s borders, including those in the Upper West Region, there are other routes that people may still use as entry points into the country from neighboring Burkina Faso.

A video captured by this resident, showed a pathway in Lawra Dikpe that links to Burkina Faso. The only barrier at this route is a stream which people will have to cross to and from both countries.

The stream, according to him however, is barely deep and can easily be crossed. He explained that there may be other areas like the Gbiir area that have similar routes.

The concerns of these residents is that, the country may be more exposed than it is assumed, if efforts are not made to curtail movement within these unauthorised routes into the country.
