Military persons at the frontline are increasingly adopting commendable ways to help citizens adhere to safety mechanisms in these trying times with the outbreak of the Coronavirus.

Some about 2,000 military persons were deployed by government to help enforce the lockdown directives by the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, about a week ago.

Many have since been strategically positioned at vantage points in the lockdown areas across Greater Accra and Kumasi to ensure adherence and discipline.

At the Kasoa barrier for instance, on day 9 of the lockdown, one such military person was seen inspecting, educating residents and advising residents on the use of hand sanitisers whenever they step out of their homes as a safety measure.

For every individual who passed, he stopped, checked for the sanitiser and gave the go-ahead to continue their journey. In the few instances where people didn’t have these, he took time to take them through the essence of carrying one and using it as often as possible to protect themselves against the Coronavirus as they move about.

This is just one of many examples of what some good military men are doing in their own regards to educate the citizenry and to help salvage the situation.

Some few others, who have tried using force and abuse of power to enforce the directives are being investigated, according to the IGP and Chief of Defense Staff, and they will be dealt with subsequently.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s case has risen sharply to 287, an update by Ghana Health Service late Monday, April 6, 2020, revealed.

At the last count, confirmed COVID-19 cases stood at 214, implying 73 new persons have tested positive for the deadly virus.

The number of deaths, however, remains five.
