More details have emerged about the gruesome murder of a young woman allegedly killed by her boyfriend at Bentum in the Awutu Senya District of the Central Region.

The suspect, identified as Horlali Alatusa, a spiritualist believed to be in his early 20s, was arrested by police after residents reported a foul smell from a nearby farmland.

According to an eyewitness account, the suspect allegedly killed the woman, believed to be his girlfriend, about three days before the incident came to light.

Residents said farmers working in the area detected a strong stench from the farm and alerted members of the community, who later confronted the suspect.

“The deceased was his girlfriend whom he killed three days ago. He buried her in a farm after the act. Investigations indicate that farmers who had gone to the farm perceived the foul smell coming from the farm and alerted the community,” an eyewitness recounted.

The eyewitness added that when residents initially questioned the suspect about the smell, he denied any knowledge of the incident.

However, suspicion grew after some members of the community noticed clots of blood in a trench that had allegedly been dug earlier by the suspect.

“When they came to ask him, he denied any knowledge but we later found out through our investigations that he was responsible for the lady’s death,” he said.

The matter was subsequently reported to the police for further investigations.

Police later interrogated the suspect, who reportedly confessed to the crime and led officers to the location where the body of the deceased had been hidden.

According to the eyewitness, the body of the victim was found in a mutilated state.

“When the body was dug out by the police, the lady’s head, hands, legs, private part had all been cut off,” he added.

The gruesome discovery angered some youth in the community, who attempted to assault the suspect, but he was rescued by police officers.

The eyewitness further stated that the suspect’s house was vandalised by angry residents following the incident.

“The youth became angry and attempted to beat the man but the police rescued him. His house has also been destroyed by the youth who wants nothing to do with the suspect,” he stated.

The deceased has yet to be identified as community members are convinced the murder was committed for ritual purposes since the suspect, Horlali, is known to have inherited his father’s deities.

Meanwhile, the remains have since been conveyed by police while the suspect remains in custody.
