Ezinlibo residents appeal for electricity extension

Residents at Ezinlibo, a community in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region have appealed to government to extend electricity to parts of the community which is still in darkness.

Assembly Member for the area, Emmanuel Assuah-Chie who made the appeal said some parts of the community had been in darkness since the community was connected to the national grid.

He added that the said areas which are predominantly occupied by government workers are completely dark.

According to him, electricity poles have been erected and wired but are yet to be connected to power.

"Ever since we were connected to the national grid, we have been appealing to successive governments to extend electricity to some parts of the community where there is no electricity but no government has listened to our concerns and when you come to Ezinlibo Community we have a Secondary School here called Annor Adjaye SHS and these areas that I am talking about are where most of the students, mostly day students stay including some government workers," he stated.

He added that the situation is affecting the academic performance of the students who had to struggle under unfavourable conditions to learn.

He revealed that the situation has compelled students to use torchlights to learn in the evening with majority of them complaining of eye complications.

"I am worried today because I know if government doesn't come to our aid, this situation, apart from affecting their academic performance, it will also affect their eyesight because regular usage of torchlights is not good," he intimated.

The Assembly Member said he has written severally to then Ghana Electricity Company to address their plight yet nothing has been done.

He added that the incidence of armed robbery and theft has increased over time within these areas as a result of government's inability to connect the areas to power.

"Everyday the residents living in these areas always come to me to complain about theft and I can't sleep over this situation," he lamented.

Touching on education and sanitation, the Assemblyman said education is the key to success in every field of human endeavour and charged parents and guardians to give their children a good education.

He further appealed to government to come to the aid of the only Senior High School of the area, Annor Adjaye SHS with facilities as one of the classrooms built by the late John Evans Atta Mills was on the verge of collapse.

He said the sandy beaches in the area are very potential tourist attractions and called on his people to keep them clean in order to attract entrepreneurs who would establish beach resorts.

He pleaded with his people to revive their self-help spirit to facilitate the development of the community.

Ezinlibo is a fishing Community with about 600 population which has a Secondary School called Annor Adjaye SHS. The Community has produced renowned personalities such as the former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Peter Augustine Blay and also a District Chief Executive (DCE).
