FAO assists Ghana develop Food Security Action Plan

Accra, Feb. 12, GNA - The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is to assist Ghana develop a comprehensive Food Security Plan Action. Mr. Edouard Tapsoba, the FAO Sub-Regional Coordinator in Ghana who announced this in Accra on Monday said a deliberate decision has also been taken to make Ghana the centre of the organisation's activities in the West African region.

He made the announcements when he called on Mr. Hackman Owusu-Agyeman, Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing at his office in Accra.

Mr Tapsoba said the FAO wanted to intensify its cooperation with Ghana and lauded the country's efforts towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

He said Ghana would fully benefit from the organisation's technical assistance that would be rendered to the sub-regional countries noting that agriculture still remained the mainstay of most economies. Mr. Owusu-Agyeman said government through the collaboration of the Ministry of Defence would look at the FAO to assist it develop the technology for harvesting rainwater for use. He said Ghana has enjoyed a lot of support from the FAO with the bulk going into the agricultural sector. 12 Feb. 07
