The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has been recognized as the Best Performing Specified Entity in Ghana.

The Authority was adjudged Overall Specified Entity for 2022 and 2023 in the Public Enterprises League Table (PELT) at the Public Enterprise League Table and Awards Dinner held on Friday, September 13, 2024, at the Rock City Hotel in Kwahu, Eastern Region.

The FDA topped the league with an overall performance index of 4.354 in 2023, followed by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, which scored 4.242 and won the Overall State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) of the Year 2023.

The awards, organized by the Ministry of Public Enterprises and the State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA), with support from the Ministry of Finance, were aimed at fostering competition among public enterprises to ostensibly enhance performance.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, who graced the occasion, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting underperforming State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) to overcome challenges and contribute to national development.

“Some specified entities continue to face significant challenges. While we are mindful of the unique circumstances surrounding each entity, I firmly believe that no challenge is insurmountable. This government remains committed to supporting all specified entities, whether through restructuring, investment, or public-private partnerships where necessary,” President Akufo-Addo said.

The President also praised the Public Enterprise League Table (PELT) initiative for promoting healthy competition, fostering accountability, and encouraging continuous improvement among specified entities. He commended the Minister of Public Enterprises, Joseph Cudjoe, for his leadership in driving this initiative.

“This initiative promotes healthy competition, fosters accountability, and encourages continuous improvement while driving the profitability and development of our specified entities. I applaud Hon. Joseph Cudjoe for his foresight and leadership in establishing this initiative, which continues to benefit our nation,” the President added.

He further highlighted the critical role of specified entities in Ghana’s economy, noting that their success contributes not only to economic growth but also to improved living standards by providing jobs and producing quality goods and services that meet global standards.
