FDA hails disqualification of bleached prospective recruits

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has commended the Security Services in the Country for disqualifying prospective recruits with bleached skin.

Some prospective recruits were rejected by the Immigration and Police Services for bleaching their body.

According to the Authority, it is a complementary effort to its campaign against harmful bleaching chemicals, hydroquinone.

The FDA has banned cosmetic products containing over 2% of hydroquinone, a bleaching chemical linked to have harmful effect on liver, kidney and causes skin cancer among other life threatening effects.

Speaking to Starr News Thursday during a media engagement by the FDA in Koforidua in the Eastern region, the Head of Cosmetics and Household Chemical Substance Department of the Authority, Emmanuel Nkrumah said though the Authority does not have locus to direct other institutions to do same, he believes it is a wake-up call for the youth that bleached Skin may not be suitable for certain kind of jobs due to health consequences.
