The Food and Drugs Board (FDB) on Tuesday confiscated some unwholesome aphrodisiac drugs in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality which the officials said are dangerous to human health.
This exercise forms part of the Post Market Surveillance activities of the Board.
Mr. Albert Ankoma, a regulatory officer of the board, after leading the operation, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the confiscated drugs would be destroyed.
He said the aphrodisiacs have not been registered and approved by the FDB, hence it cannot guarantee the safety of the drugs.
Mr. Ankoma noted that, the unwholesome drugs were smuggled into the country that was why they were not registered, adding that the board could not guarantee their safety for consumers.
As part of its PMS activities, the team will be proceeding to the northern part of the Western Region.
Mr. Ankoma advised the public not to purchase medicine from drug peddlers or those in vehicles and should rather go to hospital if they feel sick.
He also called on Ghanaians to check the expiry dates of every product they purchase.**
