FFTJ supports CJ in fight against corruption

Kumasi, March 5, GNA - The Foundation For True Justice (FFTJ) has asked the Chief Justice, Mr Justice Kingsley George Acquah not to succumb to the death threats he has been receiving in his efforts to fight corruption in the Judicial Service.

The Foundation said the Chief Justice would let down the silent majority of Ghanaians, who support and admire his courage to purge the Judicial Service of corruption, if he succumbed to the threats. A statement issued in Kumasi and signed by Okesseku Mintah-Afari, Founder and President of the Foundation, said the Foundation was solidly behind him.

In support of the Chief Justice's efforts therefore, the Foundation said it would soon launch a vigorous crusade against what it described as the high level of corruption in the Judicial Service. It therefore appealed to all stakeholders, organisations and individuals for support to rid the Service of the corruption, which had engulfed it to ensure fair dispensation of justice to all manner of persons, rich or poor.

The Foundation said the much talked about rule of law, good governance and human rights would come to naught, if the courts did not live up to expectation and cases piled up at the various courts were not fairly and expeditiously dealt with.

It said the perceived corruption in the administration of justice in the country had eroded public confidence and as a result, people take the law into their own hands to dish out instant justice. "The dispensation of justice should not be taken for granted because it affects every aspect of national development and individual livelihoods.

The Foundation said, since leadership was about taking action and solving problems, "We urge the leadership of the Judicial Service to be more proactive in solving the high level corruption in the Service to make it vibrant.

We are of the view that in the absence of a vibrant Judicial Service, the country would be plunged into chaos and anarchy". The Foundation said the Chief Justice having had evidence of corruption within the Service he should design and maintain an appropriate culture of discipline to rid the Service of corruption. It therefore asked all well-meaning Ghanaians, the Government, traditional rulers, the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), the media and all stakeholders to rise up to fight the canker in support of the Chief Justice.
