The Ghana Police Service has dismissed reports suggesting that the recent transfer of some senior officers is politically motivated, coming on the back of a change in government.

The transfer list was contained in a memo released by John Kudalor, the Inspector General of Police, on Tuesday January 17.

The affected officers include ACP/Mr Alphones Mark Adu Amakwa, Commandant/Police Academy to VIPPU, Accra; C/Supt Mr Ebenezer Kweku Asare, Ops/Volta Region to VIPPU, Accra; C/Supt/Mr Cephas Coffie, I/C Donkorkrom Div/ER to VIPPU, Accra; C/Supt/ Mr Samuel Kwesi Ofori, I/C Adabraka Dist/AR to VIPPU, Accra; C/Supt Mr Kwesi Annor Arhin, I/C Weija Division/AR to VIPPU, Accra; Supt Mrs Phyllis Osei, DOVVSU/National Hqrs/Accra to VIPPU, Accra; DSP/Mr Amoako Boansi, MTTU/Amasaman Div/AR to VIPPU, Accra; DSP/Mr Ibrahim Opoku, MTTU/Madina/AR to VIPPU, Accra; ASP/Mr Alex Kwesi Kwarteng, I/C Crime/Adabraka Dist/AR to VIPPU, Accra; ASP/Mr Benjamin Tetteh Baah, I/C Crime/Kotobabi Dist/AR to VIPPU, Accra; and ASP/Mr Isaac Okai Ocansey, CID/Headquarters/Accra to VIPPU, Accra.

This transfer exercise has been met with mixed reactions from a section of the Ghanaian public, with some reading political meanings into it.

However, speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom, on Accra100.5FM on Tuesday January 17, the Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Supt Cephas Arthur, said: “This is not a politically motivated transfer.

It is part of police routine activities. Every time there is a change in government, the police administration reassigns some officers to other duties and so this is not politically motivated. It is not a new thing.”
