FM stations advised not to rush to broadcast information on armed robbers ..

Agona Swedru, March 29, GNA - The Agona Swedru Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Owusu Donyina, has appealed to FM Stations not to rush to broadcast details of armed robbery operations immediately they receive such information. He said the immediate airing of those details offers criminals the opportunity to outwit police and other security personnel from being arrested. Chief Superintendent Donyina made this known to newsmen at Agona Swedru when he spoke at the West Africa Security Services Association (WASSA) get- together organised by the Divisional police Command at Agona Swedru.

The Divisional Commander said most of the robbers listened to FM radio stations on their mobile phones during operation and could quickly run away from the police and other community watchdog committee members when they heard that they were being chased.

He said the activities of armed robbers were high in the Agona Swedru Municipality in January and February this year, but that the Division had put in effective measures to bring the situation under control.

The Divisional Commander said the Municipality had been divided into three zones and numbers of the three mobile phone provided to them by the Municipal Assembly have made available to the public. He said the numbers had also been pasted at vantage points for easy identification by the public in case of robbery attack.

The Police Commander called on the local communities to form watch dog committees to support the police.
