The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has been given a two-week ultimatum to withdraw calls on loyalists of former President J.J Rawlings to defy him.
A leading member of the Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings (FONKAR), Ernest Owusu-Bempah, served the notice in an interview with Citi News, but failed to mention their next line of action should Mr. Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, fails to withdraw his comments.
He said: “We are giving him two weeks to withdraw his comment or else we will take the necessary action against him.”
The NDC chief scribe at a meeting with party supporters was reported to have asked them to ignore the party’s founder on his incessant attacks on the President John Mills-led NDC administration.
Several NDC splinter groups loyal to the Rawlingses including FONKAR have jumped to the defense of Mr. Rawlings.
Mr. Owusu-Bempah said: “Asiedu Nketia is talking about positive defiance whereby he can have the leverage to go out there and steal money, rape the country’s coffers and the only way to do that is to tell the grass root not to listen to the former president.”**
