Fake Cop Busted

A 32-year-old laboratory technician who posed as a policeman from CID Headquarters in Accra assigned to arrest a suspect at Nsawam has been busted by the Nsawam police.

The suspect, Daniel Cudjoe, allegedly, locked up the family of the supposed suspect in their room, assaulted one and consequently ate their food and drinks before bolting.

Luck eluded him when police from the Nsawam District Command arrested him at Kasoa in the Central Region.

Narrating the story to DAILY GUIDE, ASP Stephen Addom, district crime officer said on October 24, 2012, two men, James Kyereme Dankwah and Michael reported a case of fraud against one Jude Awuku Kwonya to the Accra Central Police Station.

A signal was given to the complainants to be delivered to the Nsawam police to arrest the said Jude since he was believed to be hiding there with his girlfriend.

The complainants, instead, contacted suspect Daniel who claimed to be a policeman stationed at the Police CID headquarters and one Kwame from the Panthers Unit of the police, for assistance.

The two suspects together with the complainants stormed the family house of Jude’s supposed girlfriend and ordered them to produce Jude or they would be arrested.

The family numbering six was later locked up in two separate rooms for failing to produce Jude. Their mobile phones were seized as well.

One of the victims who attempted to escape was severely beaten by the fake policemen.

Two hours later, suspect Daniel opened the door and ordered the women to provide him food and drinks since he was very hungry.

He requested for kenkey and fish in addition to a bottle of Guinness beer.

Not satisfied, Daniel asked one of the women to fry fish for him instead of buying it from the kenkey seller.

After satisfying himself, two of the victims were put into a taxi by the suspects and transported to Mankessim in the Central Region to look for the said Jude.

The women later reported the matter to the Nsawam Police.

Suspect Daniel was arrested the following day at Kasoa upon tip-off but his accomplice managed to escape.

Upon interrogation, the suspect admitted he was not a policeman and pleaded for forgiveness.

He would be put before court soon after investigations are over, according to the police crime officer.
