‘Fake’ soldier busted

A young man parading himself as a soldier and extorting, abusing persons in Ntoaso in Eastern Region has been exposed by some army personnel and handed over to the police for further investigations.

Prince Ferguson Essel, 27 was arrested by two senior military men, Captain Albert Kwadwo Evedzi of the 37 Military Hospital and Sergeant Tengey Anthony of Burma Camp during their visit to the Eastern Region following tip-offs from some concerned townsfolk.

He was later handed over to the Nsawam Police command in the Eastern Region for further questioning after a search at his residence revealed some items including three military uniforms, a kit bag, a water pack, a baret with a military crown, desert boots and military belts all which assisted him play out his ‘fake’ role.

The suspect who apparently has been physically abusing persons in his area under the guise of a soldier couldn’t stand the heat when just a bit of the same treatment was meted out to him at the police station by some of the personnel.

Trying to be the ‘man’ in the situation also didn’t help much as his defiance just invited more slaps and scolding which eventually got him quiet.

The police are yet to find out the details of the situation as investigations begin.

Meanwhile, a number of persons have in recent times posed as police and army personnel to commit crimes and abuse persons in the country.
