The family of the late Mrs. Monica Dei-Amoah has established a basic school at Tanoso in her honour to improve access to basic education in the Tano North District.

The mother of the deceased, Madam Mary Mansusu Adu-Wusu, a retired educationist who is the proprietress of the Monica’s Memorial Basic School, during the commissioning narrated that her late daughter was a successful business woman in Accra, blessed with wealth and property, but unfortunately had no child.

According to Madam Mary Mansusu Adu-Wusu, after the death of her daughter, the family agreed and decided to honour the late Monica Dei-Amoah with a memorable thing that would benefit the people of her area, hence the establishment of Monica’s Memorial School at Tanoso.

She continued that Monica’s Memorial School was built with funding from the property of the late daughter, and is to offer quality basic education to the people of Tanoso, Susuanso and Yamfo, where children are transported on a daily basis to and from their respective homes to far away Sunyani.

Madam Mansusu Adu-Wusu noted that it has not been so safe and comfortable for children to be transported from Tanoso, Susuanso and Yamfo to Sunyani before they can have access to basic education, so the establishment of Monica’s Basic School will save parents and wards, as well as children, from the hassle of travelling a long distance to school.

She said the school currently has a six-unit classroom block, a staff common room, office, and store room which is completed and furnished, as well as a toilet facility and urinal made of six chambers each for males and females.

There is an ongoing six-unit classroom block as well for the Junior High School, and another ongoing project for a kitchen.

Madam Mansusu Adu-Wusu further disclosed that she had instructed the Headteacher of the school, Mr. Asare Bediako, to offer free admission to the first ten pupils who to be enrolled, whilst the remaining pay affordable tuition fees.

She said a bus had been provided transport pupils to and from the school daily at an affordable fee of GH¢1 per child.

Madam Mansusu Adu-Wusu commended the chiefs and pupils of the Tanoso community and Susuanso for their support, and awarded Mr. Asare Bediako for his personal contribution towards the establishment of the school.

Mr. Asare Bediako thanked the proprietress, Madam Mansusu, for the confidence reposed in him to head Monica’s Memorial School, and gave the assurance to work hard to meet the expectations of the school.

According to Mr. Asare Bediako, the school would commence officially on September 21, 2014, with 27 pupils admitted from Kindergarten 1 to Primary 1, and a current teaching staff of 9, with 6 non-teaching staff, including a driver.
