A Special Aide to President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has expressed satisfaction over the appointment of Mahama Ayariga as the new Majority Leader of Ghana's 9th Parliament.
In a post shared on her X account on Thursday, January 16, 2025, she praised Ayariga's qualifications, describing him as a fantastic choice for both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the government.
"Hon. Mahama Ayariga is sharp and has strong analytical and solid oratory skills. He will undoubtedly be a great Majority Leader. Congratulations, my brother. Godspeed," Mogtari remarked.
The Bawku Central legislator steps into the role previously held by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Member of Parliament of Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam.
Dr. Forson has been nominated by President John Dramani Mahama as the Minister of Finance-designate, necessitating the leadership change within the NDC caucus.
Ayariga's appointment comes amid a series of leadership adjustments in the NDC.
Dr. Forson succeeded Haruna Iddrisu as leader of the NDC caucus in January 2023, after Iddrisu had led the party in Parliament since 2017.
The transition from Iddrisu to Forson was part of a broader restructuring effort by the NDC, which, according to National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, was aimed at strengthening the party from the grassroots to the flagbearer level.
Speculations about Ayariga's leadership appointment gained momentum when Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, suggested that Ayariga was the likely successor following Forson's nomination as Minister of Finance-designate.
With his extensive parliamentary experience and acknowledged analytical and oratory skills, Ayariga is expected to play a crucial role in the NDC's leadership in Parliament as its Leader.
