Fares increased by 5% with immediate effect

Accra, Oct. 4, GNA - The Ghana Private Road Transport Union of the Trade Union Congress (GPRTU) on Tuesday announced that lorry fares should be increase by five per cent across board with immediate effect. The increase was agreed at an emergency meeting of the National Working Committee of the GPRTU in Accra on Tuesday.

A statement signed by Mr Stephen Okudzeto, General-Secretary of the Union; explained that they took into consideration the total increase of fuel price by 9.6 per cent announced by the National Petroleum Authority between August and October 3 this year. They also took into consideration the plight of the travelling public.

The statement directed all Regional secretariat of the Union to comply with the directive and ensure that the five per cent increase was worked on the existing lorry fares.

The Union appealed to the public to refer any problem with any driver to the nearest GPRTU Regional or Branch Secretariat for redress.
