Farm hand convicted for stealing eggs

Dormaa Ahenkro (B/A), Aug. 7, GNA - A circuit court at Dormaa Ahenkro has sentenced a 23-year-old poultry farm labourer, Stephen Abasor, to a fine of GHC 100.00 for stealing. He will serve a year's imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine. The court presided by Mr. Justice Vincent Carl Senu ordered that GHC 10.00 out of the fine should be given to the employer, who is owner of Boadu Farms, from whom the convict stole three trays of eggs valued at GHC 9.00.

Police Chief Inspector M. K. Yeboah told the court that in March the complainant and Abasor were on their way back from the poultry farm when a wrapper containing three trays of eggs fell from the convict's bicycle and were destroyed.

He said the convict went down on his knees and apologized to his master for stealing the eggs from the farm.

Chief Inspector Yeboah said his employer accepted the plea and forgave him but his investigations into previous thefts on his farm led to a trader who revealed that Abasor had sold nine trays of eggs to her on three occasions.

The employer also discovered that the convict used a footpath through a forest to the farm to steal the eggs from the farm. 07 Aug 08
